Boost Your Immunity with Elderberry Syrup

Wellness+Wednesday+Banner

Are you braced for the 2013 edition of cold and flu season?  The Wellness Wednesday theme for October is immunity!

One of my favourite immune boosters is elderberry syrup. It’s effective and it tastes delicious. Elderberry syrup contains lots of flavonoids and antioxidants, and addresses all flu symptoms (fever, head/body aches, cough, etc).

I make mine by simmering 1/2 cup dried elderberries, 1 Tbsp. chopped, fresh ginger, and 2 cups water for about 20 minutes. After removing from heat, I strain out the solids and stir in 1 cup raw honey. I pour the mixture into a glass jar or bottle and store it in the fridge.

We take about 1 Tbsp of syrup a day when the flu is going around, and about 4 Tbsp a day if we’re actually sick.

If you’d like to give elderberry syrup a try this season, you can purchase the dried berries online from Amazon.

    1. Everything they sell looks amazing. The prices are great, but you have to get a bigger order together to make the shipping worthwhile. I really like their rhassoul clay for doing a homemade facial. We also bought their kelp powder to put in our smoothies as a health supplement. I bet you’d really like some of their tea blends and tinctures.
