Have a hot toddy!

It will warm you up…

…when you’re huddled in a drafty garret penning manuscripts by candlelight.

…when you’re pouring over a time-weathered volume in front of a roaring fire.

…or when you’re feeling under the weather and need a little nightcap to soothe you to bed.

Wherever you take it, the hot toddy will be your new favourite beverage to banish the chill of winter! It also soothes your throat–making it an excellent elixir for when you have a cold or flu.

Hot Toddy Ingredients - RichlyRooted.com

There are many variations on the hot toddy, but the main components are lemon juice, honey, and some type of alcohol. I enjoyed mine with tea and spices, although some recipes just call for hot water. You can play with these components to come up with your own unique cocktail:

  • Citrus (lemon, lime, orange, blood orange)
  • Honey (keep it raw, okay?)
  • Alcohol (bourbon, rum, brandy)
  • Spices (cinnamon, ginger root, cloves)
  • Tea (Irish breakfast, black currant, rooibos, chamomile)
