Seasonal Produce Guide, Summer Edition (FREE Printables!)

Find out what fruits and vegetables are in season this summer! Here are four printable seasonal produce guides, divided up by region. (And they're FREE!)

One of the things I love about living the rhythm of the seasons is enjoying produce at the peak of freshness.

When I first got married, I had a vague idea of what produce was in season when, but I wanted to pay closer attention. I had three main reasons for eating fruits and vegetables in season:

1. Produce is less expensive when you buy it in season

2. Buying in season is the greener way to go (for instance, produce doesn’t have to travel long distances to reach you)

3. The flavours are more intense

After three years of running my own home, I know what to look forward to, and how to build meals around what’s in season.

If you want to practice seasonal eating, I thought you might enjoy these printable summer produce guides. I divided them up by region, but since the U.S. is such a big country, you’ll want to do some local investigation, too. Pickyourown.org is a great place to start, or you can call local farms, check the paper, or just pay attention to roadside stands and what’s abundant in the grocery store.

You will notice some trends across regions: strawberries and rhubarb in early summer, blueberries in mid summer, tomatoes and watermelon in August, yellow squash all summer long. July and August are the bumper months; most produce is in season then.

  1. Hi Elsie and thank you for hosting Wellness Wed! This week I share my experience trying four different spring foods. It’s always fun exploring new tastes and I’ve started to specifically try new foods with each season. All of which inspired me to host a blogger event celebrating all things summer food and I’d love for you to participate. Your seasonal produce guide post fits perfectly with the event. A link to the details are at the bottom of my post. Have a great week!

  2. Thanks for the printable! I just recently moved from Montana to South Carolina, so it will come in very handy for me! 🙂 Also linked up my Spring Cleaner Smoothie… 😉 Thanks for hosting!
