Growing up, I remember how my mom never left the house without her planner. With appointments and homeschool activities for six children, it was her lifeline.

I only have one child so far, but as a homemaker I’ve already learned the value of a good planner! Last year I was introduced to the Homemaker’s Friend Daily Planner by Sue Hooley, and fell in love. It’s by far the best–and my favourite–planner I’ve used (and I went through quite a few during my college years!).

I got my beautiful 2016 planner in the mail recently, and I can’t wait to fill its pages with the rhythms of our daily life.

I’ll give you an inside look at the 2016 edition of the Homemaker’s Friend planner, and then you’ll have a chance to win your own below!

shopping lists

The Homemaker’s Friend planner is tab-divided into 7 sections:

  • Year – includes 2016 and 2017 mini calendars and space for important dates
  • Month – 2-page spread with space for margin notes
  • Week – includes space for weekly to-do list, activities, and daily menu
  • Tasks – lots of pages here for any lists you need to make!
  • Projects & Events – use this space for party planning and organizing!
  • Information – a place to keep contact info
  • Shopping – LOTS of pages of perforated, tear-out shopping lists

The weekly section is my favourite; I love being able to see and plan my whole week at a glance, plus keep track of what we’re having for dinner each night.

As functional as the Homemaker’s Friend planner is, it’s also very beautiful. And since I’ll be consulting it daily and carrying it with me, aesthetics are important! I love the Bible verses and quotes sprinkled throughout, and the clean but detailed layout that show that this planner was created from lots of experience! (Sue Hooley, the creator of the Homemaker’s Friend planners, is a homeschooling mom of 6.)

In fact, the Homemaker’s Friend planner is my ideal planner.(:

These are my criteria for a good planner for all things homemaking! The Homemaker's Friend daily planner is my favourite!

Pick up your own 2016 planner now, (and a few extras for Christmas gifts), and you’ll be ready to get organized when January rolls around.

  1. My criteria would be soft coloring and beautiful pictures. Size should be a size to fit into backpacks and purse. Love the look of this planner. I want it!

  2. I am a very spontaneous person, so keeping a planner has been a hard habit to get into. But I have found that the more detailed the spaces and the prettier the pictures, along with some Scriptures and quotes, the better I am at using one. I think this planner would be awesome to have for the new year, especially since next year will be a busy year for us!

  3. This planner looks so pretty! I like a planner that will fit in my bag, verses each week, have week at a glance and enough room to actually write what we need to do daily. 🙂

  4. I love a planner with plenty room to make notes, but not too big. It would ideally need to fit in my handbag. I’ve been using a planner for years and don’t foresee myself switching over to an electronic one!

  5. My criteria for a planner is that it is not too large, but still has plenty of space on the inside… and lines that are far enough apart that I can actually write normally – not all tiny and squashed. I’ve never had a planner with space for lists, but I would like that, as I’m definitely a list-writer. And ideally, I prefer aesthetically pleasing planners. I really like the look of this one!

  6. I really need to get in the habit of using a planner. I believe the size of the planner and plenty of space to write would be most important to me.

  7. A couple of my criteria are, that I be able to see the whole month when opened and size, not too big not too small.

  8. My ideal planner fits in my purse, doesn’t have huge daily schedules that essentially just waste space for me, and has a weekly view so I can see the immediately important stuff, rather than just daily and monthly.
