Naan is a simple and delicious Indian flatbread. Serve it with savory lentils, soup, or alongside a salad.
Mix all ingredients except milk, poppy seeds, and butter Stir in enough milk to make a soft dough. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl; turn dough over so greased side is facing up. Cover and let rest in a warm place for 3 hours.
Place 2 baking sheets in the oven; heat oven to 450 degrees. Divide dough into 6 or 8 equal parts. Flatten each part on a lightly floured surface, rolling out into rounds or semi-circles. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with poppy seeds, if desired.
Place bread on hot baking sheets and return to the oven for 6-8 minutes, or until the bread is firm.
We like to use aluminum-free baking powder and Real Salt in this recipe!
